Monthly Meetings
What Happens At Our Meetings
At our monthly meetings we always start with a friendly welcome and a chance to catch up with friends both old and new. We usually ask the speaker to take the first slot which is followed by refreshment and social time when a cup of tea or coffee is available. The business session follows with information about all the forthcoming events at Newark Palace WI, meetings and courses available for members to join organised by Notts Federation of WIs and with information from National Federation WI.
There is usually a raffle with tickets sold at £1 which includes the refreshments. Small prizes awarded to the raffle winners are donated by our members and the money raised supplements our speaker costs.
Our annual meeting is held in March when the committee and president is elected to stand for the forthcoming year.
In May we always discuss the resolutions put forward for debate by National Federation. The topics taken forward will form the basis of our campaigning for the coming year. In 2013/14 we were campaigning to support our local high street. In 2014/15 we debated whether to support a campaign to encourage people to let their wishes about organ donation be known which was carried as our campaign for that year. The resolution for 2015/16 unfortunately failed to be elected due to technical problems with the wording of the resolution.
In June we have our birthday and hold a special meeting which may include a trip out for a meal or a bring and share lunch.
We hold a Christmas Party in December when we invite members of our local group of WIs to join us for entertainment and a shared lunch.
You can come along and see if you like us and the first meeting will cost you £3:00. You will be most welcome.
